Sela comes to Dallas October 25, 2002.....

Her book was released October 15th.

Friday, Oct 25:  I just got back from Plano, where Sela arrived a tad late for the local booksigning.

Phillip and I got there about 1.5 hours early, because I knew traffic would be bad. That is why Sela was late, she was stuck on 635, which is always under construction or hopelessly packed!

We had our books in hand, as well as "In Style" from last May. She autographed them all. :) I gave her the O&A CD, as well as a nice portion of Linzertorte (along with the recipe, in case she falls in love with it.) I also gave her the handwriting analysis that my mother did last spring, and Sela's arched eyebrows rose higher as she saw her own handwriting literally define her so accurately.

I got to spend about 2 minutes with her, handing her all these gifts as people were wondering what was taking so long. Phillip took some pictures with my Nikon, and I took a few myself. Below are a couple from the digital camera.

People lined up at Sam's Wholesale Club for the opportunity to meet the author.

She was very sweet, taking time for each person.

After introducing myself, she seemed sweet as always. I was kinda hoping she knew who I was, but my name didn't register at all with her. Oh well.... I kinda expected that, but I did have hope! She signed our books, and listened to me explain each of the items I brought her. She said "You came prepared!"

When I was taking pictures of Sela's booth, one of the reps from Sam's asked me if I was a reporter. "No, I'm from her fan club, and I represent the Save O&A website."   Good enough for her, she let me be.

One cool thing was this one man videotaping Sela.... I looked at him, and decided to flip my book open to her wedding picture. Then I approached him, and asked "Is this you?" and smiled. He smiled back, and warmly shook hands with me. I told him I remembered him from an appearance on O&A, which he tried to diminish. Howard was very friendly, and I got to talk to him longer than I did Sela. We touched on ABC's illogical acts, and he shared his opinion on what may have been part of the cause of the show's demise. I thanked him for giving us his wife for those years, because as we know (and it's in the book) she worked 12 - 14 hours a day and hardly saw her family for 8 months a year. I told him that I felt a little guilty for wanting the show back because of this, but he was very gracious and really appreciates her career.

These nice pictures are also included in the book.

She posed for a picture with Phillip and me, which I'm hoping to pull of the impossible and get printed and enlarged before tomorrow's signing. I'm going to see her again tomorrow, when she comes to Ft Worth, with Phyllis. Maybe I can get that picture autographed and later framed. :)

People in line were very nice, and each had different reasons to be there. One loved Sisters, but refused to watch O&A, because it was too real for her. Another loved O&A and thirtysomething. Still another loved thirtysomething, but wanted to meet Sela regardless that she wasn't a fan of the show (O&A).

As Sela signed, Howard visited with others.

Everyone in my immediate area felt that Sela was very thin. I chalk that up to Tv adding a few pounds, but perhaps from the stress of her loss (her mother and her show), it may have taken a toll on her. She was beautiful, and it was over far too fast.

If you haven't bought her book yet, it is well worth it. I enjoyed it over the weekend, and found many points I related to. Plus it was delightful to find out more details about how Sela followed her dream, and achieved it.  Continue to Day 2
